Golf days, Snowdon treks, and big walks; Charity is at the heart of everything we do

During the past few years, it’s been difficult to live life as ‘normal’. This goes for charity fundraising too. At RPS Telecom, charity is at the heart of everything we do, so this year we’ve set ourselves a whole host of challenges to make up for time we lost during Covid-19. From Big Walks to golf challenges and Snowdon treks, the team at RPS Telecom is doing everything we can to raise much-needed funds for our chosen charities. Read on to see what we’ll be getting up to.

The whole team will be getting out for July’s Big Walk

Last year we pledged to #SaveTheMalesInWales by walking 238 miles across the month of July, raising £365, and we’ve set ourselves the same challenge again this year to raise money for our chosen charity partner, Prostate Cymru.

Using Strava, we’ll be watching each other’s miles build up and getting in the competitive spirit whilst raising money for Wales’ leading prostate health charity in Wales, supporting men with benign prostate disease and prostate cancer.

This year is extra exciting, as there’ll be some celebrities joining us along the way. Carol Vorderman MBE and a host of other celebrity teammates will be taking part in the Big Walk throughout Wales in July.

Prostate Cymru is our chosen charity partner

“We were introduced to Prostate Cymru in 2013 by one of their Awareness Team members, Ian Norton, who asked us to help with their telephone system at the time. We donated a phone solution to them and whilst doing so gained an understanding of the great work they did. They are a fantastic group of people who work tirelessly to raise awareness about prostate cancer in Wales. Our aim is to support the awareness and ensure that men in Wales have access to the right information available to them.” – Natalie Strange, General Manager of RPS Telecom.

Throughout the year we host a Big Breakfast, golf day, and many more charity events to support Prostate Cymru and the great work they do.

We teed off

As part of RPS Telecom’s ongoing support for Prostate Cymru, Andy our Sales Manager has hosted and taken part in several charity golf events over the years. His latest tee-off was the Ray Murray Golf Day at Radyr Golf Club earlier this year, where Andy was joined by some of our valued customers; James Sullivan of JRS Business Services, Matt Preece of Business Doctors, and Paul Hurley of Freight Movement.

“Unfortunately we didn’t bring home the win but it was a great success by increasing our overall fundraising to £1822″, said Andy.

With the weather in full swing, Andy will be representing RPS Telecom again as part of the Prostate Cymru Team next month at a golf day at Maesteg Golf Club.

As a keen golfer and fundraiser, Andy has introduced Prostate Cymru to his local golf club, who have kindly agreed to organise a charity day in August in aid of Prostate Cymru and Breast Cancer UK. Andy said, “as part of my involvement on the management team of Llantrisant and Pontyclun Golf Club, I have introduced Prostate Cymru to the club as the current captain, Mr Russell Francis, holds the charity close to his heart. Mr Francis wanted to offer both his and the club’s support in future fundraising activities, and we’re excited for the upcoming charity golf day which they have kindly agreed to host.”

Vikki is trekking Snowdon for Twins Trust

Our Financial Controller, Vikki Edwards, took big steps in aid of small feet this week by walking up Mount Snowdon to raise money for Twins Trust. Along with 11 others, Vikki walked Wales’ highest mountain at 1,085m to raise vital funds for the charity that helped her over the past three years with her own twins who spent the first six weeks in the NICU after a pretty traumatic birth. “Although I was able to bring both my girls home, it was pretty touch and go for the first week or so. I cannot imagine what it’s like to go through that and not have been able to bring them home. This is why I feel I need to do my part”, said Vikki.

Vikki also said that “this journey I’ve been on has certainly helped me grow as a person and I’m hoping to help change people’s lives. Big steps for little feet will be able to assist others through their darkest times.”

From big walks to golf days, we’re always up for a challenge here at RPS, especially if it’s for charity. As a company, it’s important to acknowledge the responsibility you have to the wider community, which is why we endeavour to help as much as we can.
