Managing Director @ RPS Telecom
We’re excited to welcome Brandon to the RPS Telecom team as he begins his degree apprenticeship. Alongside studying at the University of South Wales, Brandon is gaining hands-on experience in the telecoms industry, combining academic learning with real-world practice.
At RPS Telecom, we pride ourselves on developing talent and giving people the opportunity to grow in a fast-paced, customer-focused industry. Brandon will be working closely with our team to learn the ins and outs of telecoms and play an important role in helping our clients stay connected.
To help you get to know him better, we asked Brandon a few questions about his background, his first impressions of RPS Telecom, and his ambitions for the future.
I’m Brandon from Merthyr Tydfil, and I’ve recently joined RPS Telecom as a part of a degree apprenticeship scheme with the University of South Wales. Alongside my studies I’ve also worked in McDonald’s which has helped me develop strong teamwork, customer service and time management skills required for this job.
I’m currently studying Computing, I felt this was the perfect course for me as I’ve always been interested in technology since I was young. I enjoy my course as it teaches me theory but also the practical side to tech that’s used in businesses across the world.
Telecoms is a fast-moving industry and has become an almost compulsory service in the working world. I was drawn to it because of the combine between technology and problem-solving, which are two areas that I knew I would enjoy working in. Being able to assist and make an impact on how other businesses operate/communicate was something that attracted me to the role.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, whether it’s going to different music events around the area, golf or just to catch up. I also enjoy keeping up to date with different developments in tech, my main interests are AI and VR/AR.
I have a black belt in Karate (Wado-Kai).
I’m excited to work for a company that has experienced professionals to guide me along the way. It also excites me to see what modules I continue to study at university will link to work and how I could apply that knowledge to support me and the team.
So far, the greatest help from my studies was a computer systems and network technologies module. These tie into certain aspect of my role at RPS, the technical knowledge that I continue to learn at university helps me to understand more about the system I’m using in work to enhance my performance.
Telecoms are a critical necessity for these industries, law firms are required to have secure communications, finance needs fast networks, and manufacturing relies on how well systems work with each other to run smoothly.
I would like to continue in getting hands on experience to ensure I develop my technical knowledge needed for the business. By the end of my first year, I want to become a reliable and knowledgeable part to the company.
In the next few years, I’m hoping to continue to develop my knowledge and take on more responsibility in the team. I’d also like to be able to share my understanding on the business and its operations to future individuals who may join the company with no prior knowledge.
